Tamil Nadu’s success in human development

 There is something to ponder here. Especially by the countries that want to reduce poverty.

“….the percentage of people living below-the-poverty line in Tamil Nadu had declined from 56.94 in 1973-74 to 21.12 in 1999-2000.

This was possible due to the implementation of poverty alleviation programmes that aimed at income generation and employment creation, noon meal scheme for school children and other development programmes targeting senior citizens and improving the nutritional status of women and children.”

  1. Eradicating poverty is one thing governments are good at. I’m glad to hear that human development in Tamil Nadu has improved dramatically. India needs more of these programmes.
